First, I want to say I am a long time season ticket holder at the CWS. That said, I also want to say that I originally supported the “Save Rosenblatt” Group. After following the arguments both Pro and Con and paying close attention to the plans and information with regard to the new stadium proposal downtown, I realized that this was the best option to keep the CWS in our area. I also came to realize that in spite of all the critics, Mayor Fahey and the committee have put a great deal time exploring the plan for a new downtown stadium, its location, costs, and ways to pay for the project. I became convinced, even before the “townhall meetings” held to explain the details to the public that this was definitely the way to go.
I also want to add that I am not in favor of the current Recall the Mayor effort. With only short time before the coming election and the cost of a recall election, it makes no sense. The timing of the effort is also suspect. One of the organizers made the statment that the effort was not just directed to the Ball Park issue. It seems as if the other issue is the Elkhorn annexation. It seems more apparent that this is a political issue between supporters of ex-Mayor Hal Daub and Mayor Fahey.
Then today, as I was driving home from work, I hear Daub discussing a new “hitch” in the plans, referring to a letter to the MECA Board over details. In earlier interviews, MECA Board Chairman David Sokol indicated that he felt the details could be worked out. Why is it that whenever these “hitches” turn up, it is always Mister Daub making statements. I think it is about time that both Mr. Daub and Mayor Fahey decide that the time has come to set politics aside and just concentrate on settling their differences before we do lose the CWS. It is becoming more apparent that the public is definitely in favor of a DOWNTOWN STADIUM. LETS GET TOGETHER NOW!
