Statement of Support
We believe building a new downtown stadium as proposed by the CWS Oversight Committee is the best option for the City of Omaha to keep the CWS in Omaha for the long-term. As such, the following people support that recommendation.

As a former Councilman and big supporter of building the Qwest Center I am compelled to
offer my name and support to this effort. We face the same arguments today as we did in our efforts to build the center.
The Mayor’s finance package will prove to be more reliable than what was proposed for Qwest and is fully within the legal powers of his office and that of the Council.

This is a great idea. I don’t believe that a few hundred people represent the overall sentiment of the residents of Omaha.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:53 am
The Mayor’s plan has my complete support. I am confident the parking problems can be resolved and am hopeful the financing can be accomplished without any new taxes onthe residents of Omaha. Thank you for establishing the website.

Building a new stadium and razing Rosenblatt would allow the zoo the space to expand and to become one of the top zoos in the nation and allow us to keep the CWS for 20 years or longer. This is a win-win for the entire city. Tourism dollars from both will be more than what we spend on the new stadium. The only arguements I hear about going downtown are about parking and traffic. Have any of the Rosenblatt supporters tried to drive around the stadium or park when the CWS in in town? It is horrible now. The downtown location would take care of some of the parking problems because the hotels are right there. This would take care of a lot of parking by itself.

This new stadium will no doubt bring more economic growth to Omaha (and the rest of the state). I guess I’m not surprised by opposition to progress in Nebraska. I see this state as very backwards thinking. Let’s move forward with the new stadium!
March 20th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I am fully in support of the stadium plan. It is absolutely essential for Omaha to keep the CWS and to make major strides in the development of North Downtown. This will also be, in the long-run, a boon for South Omaha as well, as the expansion of the zoo will certainly provide a catalyst for new development in the future.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:30 am
I support the downtown stadium.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Keep Omaha ours !!!
March 20th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Great time for a great new venue in Omaha!!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
I support the Mayor’s plan to build a new stadium in Omaha. I am confident the parking problems can be resolved – I would love to see even more inexpensive parking available for those that want to attend downtown events. I am hopeful the financing can be accomplished without any new taxes.
I would also love to see a free or inexpensive shuttle during the CWS to the old market – what a great part of the city for our visators to see.
March 20th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
I believe that the new stadium will take Omaha & the CWS to a new level. I have many great memories at the ‘blatt. However, it no longer stands up to modern standards and expectations. I do believe that a new stadium is a foregone conclusion if we wish to keep the CWS in our community long term. The event has risen in popularity and the NCAA would have every reason to go shopping for a new venue if we do not stand up to the plate!
March 20th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
I support you, Mayor Fahey!
March 20th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I believe building a new downtown stadium as proposed by the CWS Oversight Committee is the best option for the City of Omaha to keep the CWS in Omaha for the long-term.
March 20th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I also think the majority of Omaha’s residents want to move forward with building the new downtown baseball stadium. It is critical to Omaha’s ability to retain the CWS.
March 20th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
The new stadium will benefit all in Omaha. The CWS represents a national two-week national marketing campaign for Omaha. The entire city benefits from this multi-million dollar annual exposure.
March 20th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
The College World Series is a great event for all of Nebraska, not just Omaha. Many of us who live in communities west of Omaha and Lincoln do a great deal to support events in both of those cities, and I only wish that our participation would be encouraged and appreciated. I wish Omaha would advertise as K.C. does to get people to consider spending time there rather than areas to the south. The CWS is certainly one way to do that. I only hope that any new stadium could be built to look like an old, traditional stadium as much as possible so as not to lose the ambience of Rosenblatt. Who needs another cookie cutter “modern” facility that looks like any other place in the country?!?
I only wish that the people of Omaha could agree on something without months of hassling as always seems to be the case. I do think the mayor handled it badly from the beginning, but surely someone can take control and move forward now.

I SUPPORT A NEW DOWNTWON STADUIM.
March 20th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
i am for the new downtown stadium proposal. the plan keeps moving the city forward with an all encompassing plan that creates future economic development and entertainment avenues for the citizens.
built it omaha and keep the cws in omaha.
March 20th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
i run a residential real estate company and strongly believe that the downtown ball park will help the entire Omaha economy in the long run.
March 20th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I am originally from Omaha and have moved away. I can’t even believe there is any question as to build a new stadium in downtown. This is a no brainer. This stadium needs to be built. I do plan on coming into Omaha for the CWS in June. If Omaha loses the CWS, trust me I won’t be making any trips to Omaha in the near future. There is no way Omaha can lose this, IT WILL BE A MAJOR STEP BACK AND LOSS. Build the stadium!
March 20th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
I HAVE TRIED TO GET AHOLD OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS,GARRY GERNANDT,JIM VOKAL AND FRANKLIN THOMPSON.THESE MEMBERS ARE NOT LOOKING AT THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR CITY,THEY WANT MAYOR FAHEY RECALLED,AS A TAX PAYER IM NOT IN FAVOR OF A RECALL ELECTION,BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR ONE.ITS TIME WE STAND BEHINDED OUR MAYOR.BUILDING THE NEW TOWNTOWN STADUIM IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.LETS GROW LIKE OTHER CITIES AROUND US.LINCOLN GOT A NEW STADUIM,WHY CAN’T WE GET ONE.
BUILD IT THEY WILL COME.
March 20th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I support a downtown stadium. It’s realy what is in the best long term interest of the city and I support Mayor Fahey for taking the tough road. We need to show the country how we can put on a world class event both inside and outside the stadium for years to come instead of the park-in-someone’s-front-yard and walk by the hodpodge tent city that the CWS currently is. Alison Britt, Omaha, NE
March 20th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
I support Mayor Fahey 100% for all the good he has done for our great city. I also support the proposed downtown stadium and am ashamed of my fellow Omahans who disrespected Mayor Fahey , Mr. Stinson, and all of the rest who served on the committee to research this project. I thank all of them for their hard work and dedication to this city.

March 20th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
I support the new downtown stadium as it will be the only way to keep the CWS. CWS is growing up!
March 20th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I am in support of the new stadium and we need to keep the CWS here in order for Omaha to grow. A new stadium will benefit everyone in the long run.
March 20th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
I JUST TALKED WITH GARRY GERNANDT,HE IS NOT IN FAVOR OF A RECALL OF MAYOR FAHEY.HE IS STILL NOT IN FAVOR OF THE NEW TOWNTOWN STADUIM PLAN.PLEASE FOLKS CONTACT CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS JIM VOKAL AND FRANKLIN THOMPSON,WE NEED THERE
VOTE FOR THE NEW DOWNTOWN STADUIM,THEY ONLY HAVE 3 YES VOTES AND ONE NO VOTE (GARRY GARNANDT) SO WE NEED TO GET THE OTHER 2 CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS ON
THERE MAYORS SIDE.THE CWS NEEDS TO BE DOWNTOWN.
March 20th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
I support the building of the new ball park downtown. I think that it is the only way to keep the CWS here.
March 20th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
I want to say that I think the new stadium would be a great thing for Omaha and the state of Nebraska. I would love to go downtown and be able to go see a baseball game. I hope everything can get worked out with the money issues and we can get this thing built. We need this stadium, and we need the CWS. BUILD THE STADIUM!!!!!!!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Yes
March 20th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
As we in Omaha are all excited about March Madness and our roll in that, how could people even be thinking about fighting against building a new stadium downtown for CWS. That’s absolutely crazy. Our part of March Madness would NEVER HAVE HAPPENED had it not been for the growth and success of CWS and the long-term strength of the relationship with the NCAA built by people like Jack Desing. The fact is 30 years ago, maybe even 10 years ago Rosenblatt was OK for the CWS, but that championship has outgrown that space. And Rosenblatt is now a black hole into which we would simply have to pour money to keep it from falling down. People expect more today. The players expect more. More than Rosenblatt and the surrounding area can ever hope to deliver. A better stadium, more access to hotels, eateries and activities. More period. And we need to serve that up proactively or be willing to walk away and let other cities reap the benefits of the CWS into the future. If we let that happen, shame on the people who are fighting this based on their own greedy self interest. And for all those who think they are fighting this based on the premise of fiscal responsibility, well you small minority will be solely responsible to the rest of us when the city has to find other ways to pay for things (i..e. raise taxes) to make up for the money we won’t get anymore from the CWS. Don’t fool yourself, that event brings A LOT of money into this city and because it’s been here for so long we take those dollars for granted. That money that comes into the city coffers in the form of sales taxes and so much more. I AM 100% BEHIND THE NEW STADIUM AND APPLAUD MAYOR FAHEY FOR HIS LEADERSHIP AND GUTS IN DRIVING OMAHA FORWARD DESPITE THE BACKWARD NON PROGRESSIVE THINKING INDIVIDUALS THAT FIGHT THIS ON NO LOGICAL GROUNDS. WHATSOEVER.
March 20th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Let’s get this thing built!
March 20th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
We need to move forward with this. I remember when there was an outcry about Qwest as well, and look at it now ! Rosenblatt would not be the same if it was rebuilt and the NCAA has made it clear enough they want it built near hotels. The zoo could make great use of that land 365 days a year ! Please, let’s not make a terrible mistake and lose this stadium for good !
March 20th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to play at rosenblatt as a youth and have enjoyed a sun-drenched afternoon with my stepson buildind memories on the right field line as an adult. I’m emotional right now just remembering all the joy that old ballpark has brought me…. that being out of the way, I fully support mike fahey and the vision he has for the downtown area.lets grow up omaha and think beyond lost parking revenues.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
just came back from the phoenix area and saw 6 great small ballparks (spring training) that would look great in downtown omaha
March 20th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
LETS STOP THE FIGHTING AND GET THIS THING BUILT.GET ON BOARD OR GET LEFT BEHIND.MAYOR FAHEY YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT AND MY VOTE!
March 20th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
I just keep remembering all the negative comments about the Quest Center before it was built. I am in favor of the new stadium. I want to keep the College World Series in Omaha! I support Mayor Fahey!!
March 20th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
My parents have had box seats for over 50 years and have gone every year to all the games. They have lots of good memories of Rosenblatt but they too believe that this change is good. I live in Carter Lake Iowa and we support the new stadium downtown. We feel this is necessary for the growth of Omaha and to keep the best sport (college baseball) here. This will not only help bring more people into the city and the metro area but it will make the city ten times what it is today…..Those small minded people who do not want change need to get out from under the rock they live in…..and take a look at what other cities have done and how it has made them grow….Keep up the good work and get this baseball diamond built…..
March 20th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
I grew up in South Omaha and am very proud to say that I am a part of it’s heritage and vice-versa. As a baseball fan, I know how important Rosenblatt, the CWS and the Royals are to our city. I want the story to continue here as well.
I believe the mayor and most of the people in our community can see the writing on the wall when it comes to the future of baseball in Omaha. I have not read a single article anywhere that said that a city was upset or considered it’s decision to build a new ballpark to be incorrect. Omaha will be no different. I will go out of my way to increase my support for the Royals as well, should they play in the downtown stadium. If it should be another team, I will attend their games as often as possible.
The “First Class” zoo in our city will be able to move to an even higher level of excelence than it already enjoys. I know everyone in the city will be proud of that as well.
Keep pressing forward Mr. Fahey. We’ll be behind you all the way!
March 20th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Build it and watch the attendance grow exponentially!!!
This is a no-brainer. Build the stadium and fill in the surrounding blocks with a fresh new downtown destination for residents and especially tourists/visitors to experience new shops/restaurants/bars, etc. Would a new development be worse than the Weekly-Nightly Rooms for rent on 16th and Cuming??? Welcome to Omaha tourists, here is some blatant prostitution to start your trip!
The debate against the Stadium is a debate against the growth and development of Omaha. With the stadium (and subsequent N Downtown development) Omaha is growing up to “big-city” status. The nay-sayers and morons that want to impeach Fahey need to move back to a small hole-in-the-wall, undeveloped town and more importantly get an education and learn a little something about marketing, tourism, economics, the list goes on. Once they’ve accomplish these courses (with adequate grades) then hopefully they could concoct a legitimate argument against the stadium plan, which I believe does not exist.
*remember one thing, the CWS is called “the road to Omaha”, not Rosenblatt!
March 20th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
I don’t care either way but a new ballpark would be neat.
March 20th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
How can the people of Omaha not be in support of a new stadium. This is just what Omaha needs in it’s fight to shed the cow-town image that has labeled it for decades.
The CWS brings in 40 million dollars a year. If the city can lock the NCAA in to a long term contract – 20 years or longers – we have the potential to bring in a BILLION dollars over that time. It’s disheartening that some people would want to pass up that opprotunity so they can keep illegally parking cars on thier lawns for two weeks a year and pocket a few hundred dollars (that I’m sure isn’t being reported to the IRS).
Here’s an idea. Don’t build the new stadium and then we will lose the CWS. After we lose the CWS it will be up to the Royals to support Rosenblatt. They already want a smaller stadium so they stop using The Johnny too. Now were left with a dilapidated stadium that nobody wants to use and we’ll end up tearing it down anyway. Will the Rosenblatt supporters be hapy then?
It’s time this city, and the people that live, here get behind the idea of a new stadium and it’s mayor, Mike Fahey. One of the stipulations the NCAA has is that the idea of a new staidum has broad based public support. We need to show them that, especially while they are here for March Madness.
Build it, Mike! They will come!
March 20th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
I grew up in South O. Went to the Blatt many a time. Watched the CWS grow into a major event. While I will miss Rosenblatt, it’s time. Time to look to the future and assure that College World Series remains the road to omaha, so I support the downtown stadium.
March 20th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
There are times that you have to stop looking in the rear view mirror, and drive straight ahead. Over the last few years Omaha has taken many steps toward the future, and it’s time to take another big one. I’ve been traveling to your city for ten years now, and things have changed tremendously. I understand that a lot of memories are attached to Rosenblatt, and people will still remember it for the good times they spent there, but it’s time to move forward. I can’t wait to see a game in the new stadium, after a visit at the newly expanded zoo. Bravo Mayor Fahey!
March 20th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
I remember back in the day, when you could park in the neighborhoods just west of the stadium. Boy what the CWS has grown into. I haven’t gone to a game in a while because of the parking and the waiting in lines etc etc. While Omaha has put on a show every year the CWS has been at Rosenblatt, I believe that building a world class stadium would enhance this spectacle, enhance Omaha’s image, and enhance the “downtown experience” …. something the City of Omaha should be proud of.
What I am equally excited about, is the future development in the NODO area it would encourage. There is money to be made my friends and I am sure there are many investors out there that see this as a golden opportunity. As will some creative souls will also take advantage of the area where Rosenblatt resides.
The Mayor has made it very clear that taxes would not go up for the citizens of Omaha. And of course his political future in this town depends on it, but I trust he and all parties involved have thought of all the contigencies.
To summarize: I fully, unquestionably support the building of a new stadium downtown.
March 20th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
I feel strongly that if the citizens of Omaha don’t support Mayor Fahey in building the new downtown Ball Park for the CWS that Omaha will regret it in the future. The NCAA will take the CWS to another city without thinking twice if they can get what they want somewhere else. Please Omahans, speak up – do we really want to loss the CWS?
March 20th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
I proudly support buildling a new downtown stadium! Thank you Mayor Fahey for working to keep Omaha awesome!
March 20th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Thank you Mayor! We support you! Build it!
March 20th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Let’s get with it, and in addition to building a bridge to the 21st Century (we’ve already done that!)–let’s build that downtown stadium! This is new, exciting and well worth the investment!

Build it!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
I strongly support the downtown stadium… as a long time supporter and attendee of the CWS I can’t wait for the first game in the new stadium. That’s Steve for giving us an opportunity and venue to show our support.
