Statement of Support
We believe building a new downtown stadium as proposed by the CWS Oversight Committee is the best option for the City of Omaha to keep the CWS in Omaha for the long-term. As such, the following people support that recommendation.

It’s the “Road to Omaha”, not the road to Rosenblatt. The choice is clear; keep the CWS at the expense of an aging stadium, not the other way around. No other community gets this kind of opportunity, so lets show the NCAA and the rest of the Country why Omaha has been the home of the CWS for over 50 years.

Build it and keep Omaha moving in a forward direction. Growth for Downtown and the Zoo!

Thanks.

We believe that the only way to keep the CWS in Omaha for the long term is to build a new stadium, and the downtown location seems ideal. We support it 100%, even if it results in a tax increase. To pump a large amount of money into an old stadium would be a tragic mistake. Having attended many CWS games at Rosenblatt, we have often commented on how uncontrolled the area seemed. How can the City possibly establish the “clean zone” that is currently required by the NCAA.

I appreciate the opportunity to add my support.

The same people who oppose the new stadium were those who opposed the QWest Center. Look at the QWest today, a record setting crowd attending a basket ball game that started before noon. The QWest is a leader worldwide in concert attendance that draw visitors to Omaha from all over the Midwest. They stay in Omaha, they eat in Omaha and they spend in Omaha. The demand for new hotels in Omaha has generated a number of new hotels and created not only the jobs building these structures, but will provide hundreds of full and part-time job. The new stadium is a forward thinking addition to the outstanding development that have taken along the river front area. We are in our sixties and are grateful for all that Omaha has given us through the years. We want to see those that follow have the benefits we have so enjoyed.

Omaha needs attractions like this to support it’s growth and to keep attracting people to the area. It would be a shame to lose the CWS.

Thank you!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Mayor Fahey thank you for moving forward on our stadium downtown.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
I think a new stadium is the right thing for Omaha and the NoDo area. If this doesn’t get done it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that the NCAA’s headquarters is in Indianapolis and they have a very nice and modern stadium in Victory Field. This is the same situation that the city went through with the Qwest Center, we would never had some of the events come to Omaha if it hadn’t been built. I want to thank Mayor Fahey for his forward thinking in this matter.

I lived in Dallas for 20 years, I watch the new ball park in Arlington being built from the Minor league stadium that the Texas Rangers played in, I was very impresses by the new stadium and very happy to watch a ball-game in there, Progress is wonderful.
Also, in 2009, you will see the greatest football stadium ever built, the new Dallas Cowboy stadium. What a feat! After getting many venues to play in such as tghe superbowl, you will only hear praise.
Enough of the darn bickering Omaha, you build it, they will come!
You gotta love baseball!

Building the new downtown stadium is a great idea. It will keep the College World Series here for decades and will allow for expansion of the Henry Doorly Zoo.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
I whole heartedly support the constructin of a new baseball stadium for the CWS, Omaha Royals and Creighton University. Our city must continue to grow and prosper. The new BB stadium will do much futher that goal.

Just build it! The Quest looked Great on T.V. in March Madness! PROGRESS PEOPLE!!!!!

While I attend the CWS at the Old Stadium on the Hill for over 20 years it does need some work. This is a first class event for the metro Omaha and I can understand the logic of moving it downtown.
I think the mayor has kept a lot of secrets and has not been honest with the citizens of Omaha. If a new stadium will get a 20 year contract with the NCAA this will be a good deal for the citizens of Omaha.
Ford brought the Mustang into the 21 century so now Omaha needs to take the class and style of the Blat and move it downtown. Surely they can reuse some of the multimillion dollar ungrades like the sound, scoreboard, and outfield seating in the new stadium.
Its “the road to Omaha” and I think it needs to stay that way.

If your worried about parking, why not build a garage? It would make a lot better use of the space than surface parking. BUILD IT OMAHA!

I just recently moved to Omaha about two years ago and have loved the CWS since i went to my first game. I am now a student at Creighton University and have been watching the events that have been going on for quite some time now. After researching the plans that have been proposed and back and forths between the NCAA, the city, and other groups working on the project, i have come to the conclusion that a new park is not only a good idea, but completly necessary.
I realize that there is sooo much history between those foul lines and that so many great games have been played on that grass….but its time for a new stadium…and its already been stated that a renovation of Rosenblatt would not be sufficient for the NCAA.
Fahey had proposed a renovation a few years ago and the NCAA responded sayin that a renovation would only be a “expensive bandaid” on Rosenblatt.
Putting a new stadium on Lots C and E will be the best option and even though we have realized from the recent NCAA Round 1 parking problems that taking away two lots would be a large problem, it was recently proposed that we use the old factory near by for extra parking space.
Not only will a new stadium be very benificial to the CWS but also the Royals and our Creighton Bluejays. Basically what im saying is this…..
Im all for a new stadium
Go Jays

There are eight hotels within walking distance of the Quest and shuttles could continue to run to bring fans to the Quest. If Omaha is to continue to develop the river front the Traffic Department better get busy figuring out the traffic flow.
If there is a recall election guess who will pay for it? Ask yourself, if you had an older car and it continued to need repairs would you continue to pour money into repairs or would you invest in a new one? This is a simplistic example but think about it. If the series leaves Omaha, those who fought against the new stadium need to be responsible for generating $40 million in revenue annually for the city and the part-time employees who work all areas of the series (ticket-takers, vendors, to clean-up crews). Other cities are foaming at the mouth to get the series, read some of the sports articles and you’ll see what I’m talking about. If Council Bluffs would fight for it don’t think that Oklahoma City, the Superdome City and others wouldn’t put in their bid.
The CWS WAS NOT created for RV campers, tailgaters, beer gardens, yard parking income, or any one particular councilperson’s district. The series is one of the greatest recruiting tools in college sports but the series WAS created for student athletics who played well as a “team” to get on the ROAD TO OMAHA. The true purpose of the series and the young men who will suit up and swing their bats are the forgotten ones in all of this tradition -vs- progress fight.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Build it.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
As being a college student at UNL, I would love to see Omaha keep the CWS. It is one thing that helps keep bringing attraction to the big O. I also think that by keeping the CWS in Omaha it also helps small businesses for out staters to check them out. I hope Omaha will do what it takes to get the CWS to stay here.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
I go to Creighton University and I think this is a great opportunity for our whole community. BUILD THE STADIUM!
March 20th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Build it, it will be better for Omaha!
March 20th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
I just want to make sure that Nebraska stays known for something important and not for its corn!!! The CWS MUST stay in Omaha!!!
March 20th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I can’t even begin to imagine the economic backlash of losing the CWS. Those that attend the CWS patronize hotels, bars, restaurants, malls and other entertainment venues in the Greater Omaha area. This event is a staple for the city, and although I’ve only attended once, I understand that losing the CWS will mean that Omaha has lost a part of its culture that can never be replaced.

This is a must in order to secure the future of the College World Series in Omaha. Mayor Fahey’s plan is sound and is the best solution for Omaha. The new stadium has my full support as a CWS attendee and Omaha resident.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:04 am
Omaha needs the CWS. If you want to “save” something, kill the Johnny and save the CWS.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:08 am
Save the CWS!!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:21 am
With how much the CWS has given to Omaha, I don’t see why we can’t spend a portion of our money to save the CWS and gain so many more advantages by hosting it.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:24 am
Save the College World Series!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:25 am
It’s 2008. We can live in the past or the future – the present doesn’t last long. If we keep Rosenblatt as is, we’ve given other cities with greater facilities the opportunity steal the coveted College World Series from our backyard. The argument of “the history and tradition” is easily nullified with two words – Yankee Stadium. That place alone has more baseball history in the concession stands than does Rosenblatt. I love Rosenblatt and I love Omaha and plan to live the rest of my life here, but there is a time and place for everything. Much like New York City, the time and place for a new stadium in Omaha is now. The dilemma isn’t that complicated… We can keep the stadium and lose the CWS; keep the stadium, remodel it, and possibly keep the CWS (a financially inefficient plan); or invest in Omaha today and build a new diamond and assure ourselves that the CWS is here in Omaha long in the future.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:36 am
The CWS should stay in Omaha!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:41 am
THe College World Series needs to stay in Omaha. Mayor Fahey has come up with the best plan so that we can continue the great tradition of hosting the CWS here in Omaha. People need to realize that things change in life and this is just another change. Aksarben was torn down and that was a landmark of the past. Now we have the Qwest Center as the landmark of the future. Roosenblatt is a landmark of the past. We need the new stadium for the future of Omaha and the CWS. I think Mayor Fahey has done a tremendous job and I will cast my vote for him again in 2009!
March 21st, 2008 at 1:05 am
A new stadium would definately help in the effort to revive the downtown area.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:28 am
The CWS is great for Omaha and needs to stay
March 21st, 2008 at 1:30 am
We need this stadium to keep the CWS in the College World Series.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:36 am
The new stadium just makes sense and it is something that needs to get built!
March 21st, 2008 at 1:43 am
After going to the NCAA games tonight, I’m more convinced than ever that we need to build the stadium as proposed downtown. The traffic wasn’t any worse than a Creighton game, and I actually got out of there faster than I have ever been able to from Rosenblatt after a CWS game. Plus so many people go to bars and resturants after the games that it eases the traffic after the games even more. And that’s something you could never do near Rosenblatt since there is NOTHING THERE.
BUILD IT DOWNTOWN. Get with the program OMAHA!
March 21st, 2008 at 2:28 am
Build it!
March 21st, 2008 at 2:45 am
Build it! CU Students FOR the stadium!

If we build it they will come. If we don’t, they won’t.
Is this heaven? No it’s downtown Omaha!
March 21st, 2008 at 5:40 am
I support a new Stadium.
March 21st, 2008 at 6:50 am
The idea of building a new stadium downtown is a home run. Let’s build the stadium and win the series!
March 21st, 2008 at 7:31 am
I’m in
March 21st, 2008 at 7:53 am
We need a new stadium, it will boost tourists’ views of Omaha. Toledo, Ohio built a new stadium a couple years ago, and it is working out really well for them. I went to one of the Mudhen’s games while I was there, and the stadium was pretty filled up.
March 21st, 2008 at 7:58 am
We need a new stadium downtown, mostly for assurance of keeping the CWS in Omaha, but also to continue the development of NODO. This would be a huge benefit for that area of Omaha.
March 21st, 2008 at 8:08 am
Of course we should build the stadium.
March 21st, 2008 at 8:11 am
I cannot imagine Omaha without the CWS and I believe this is the best option for keeping the series here for a long time to come. Let’s take advantage of it!!
March 21st, 2008 at 8:15 am
I support Mayor Fahey and the plan for a downtown stadium. Let’s get it built.
March 21st, 2008 at 8:18 am
Let’s build it!
