Statement of Support
We believe building a new downtown stadium as proposed by the CWS Oversight Committee is the best option for the City of Omaha to keep the CWS in Omaha for the long-term. As such, the following people support that recommendation.

It shall be done!!!
March 21st, 2008 at 8:23 am
I don’t think the parking lot site is right for the new stadium but I do support a new stadium.
Sorry to see Rosenblatt go but think what the zoo can do with the extra space!
March 21st, 2008 at 8:28 am
I’m in favor of keeping the College World Series in Omaha. It is such a source of pride each year to see our stadium on national television.
March 21st, 2008 at 8:40 am
Let’s continue to build a great name for our city. With the NCAA in town, the buzzing downtown is exactly what we need to cultivate. Let’s go NODO!
March 21st, 2008 at 8:44 am
I’m down with the new stadium.
March 21st, 2008 at 8:47 am
If you build it, they will come.
March 21st, 2008 at 8:49 am
Build it!
March 21st, 2008 at 8:56 am
It can only help, build it!
March 21st, 2008 at 8:57 am
Let’s do what’s best for Omaha
March 21st, 2008 at 9:01 am
get the stadium!!
March 21st, 2008 at 9:08 am
I definitely want the new stadium. I’ve sent all of the city council members, and the save rosenblatt committee emails in support of the new stadium. I included it below. I really considered doing what you’ve done, so I’m really happy someone stepped up!
“I am from Bellevue, but live in Omaha now. I used to work at Rosenblatt when I was in college. During the summers I’d be in the concession stands for the Royals games, and I remember the 13 hour long days working at the CWS. I know that stadium inside and out. I’ve met Kevin Costner and Payton Manning there. I even remember the time Chris Benson, who played for Clemson then, threw the ball out of the stadium from the left field line. His coach made him go get the ball, but it was really cool.
Unfortunately the stadium was lousy then, and is still lousy now. The place isn’t up to par with the baseball facilities of today.
Henry Doorly Zoo needs to grow.
I know this is a growing pain that every city deals every 10 to 20 years. I must paraphrase Hubert Humphrey quote he used during the debate over building a new downtown stadium in Minneapolis. Great sports events are good for this community and are the best way to make Omaha known to the rest of the country. Without the College World Series, Omaha would just be a warm Fargo. Don’t miss the chance to give the metro area another opportunity to move forward, by building a state of the art downtown stadium.
Remember when no one wanted to build the Qwest Center? We all love it now. Join forces for a better Omaha!”
March 21st, 2008 at 9:12 am
traffic is going to be a problem with any large event downtown, but did you notice any frowns on the faces of the business people down town when all those people converged to the old market and hotels that filled up because the first two rounds of the ncaa basketball playoffs. if this doesn’t open the eyes of the select few who are against this, to bad all there interested in is making a few extra bucks parking cars in their yards. this will be a tremendous shot in the arm for downtown.
March 21st, 2008 at 9:15 am
The economic benefit of the new stadium will do so much for the city of Omaha and I can’t wait to see how the city develops over the next 10 years.
March 21st, 2008 at 9:32 am
Build it! Enjoy the CWS and the Downtown atmosphere and help clean up the area to the North around Creighton!
March 21st, 2008 at 9:47 am
Omaha is our heartland, lets keep the American game where it belongs!
March 21st, 2008 at 9:56 am
This new stadium idea is awesome and I hope it can ensure the CWS will be in Omaha for the next 20 years or more!!!
March 21st, 2008 at 9:59 am
The new stadium is the right way to go. I only wish that the supporters of save Rosenblatt would put their emotional connection to Rosenblatt aside and see what a new stadium would do for this city and it’s citizens. I support the Mayor in all his endeavors to make Omaha a bigger and better city!
March 21st, 2008 at 10:07 am
Let me be perfectly clear to all of Omaha’s perpetual naysayers and boo-birds: I ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORT THE BUILDING OF A NEW BASEBALL STADIUM DOWNTOWN near the Qwest Center/Omaha (just as I similarly supported Hal and Mike’s other “Folly,” the Qwest Center). It is absolutely imperative that Omaha latch onto this opportunity to anchor the College World Series here for at least another 20 years beyond 2010! Let the myopic “Rosenblatters” wallow in their nostalgia for times gone-by as they sit in an empty and crumbling relic of the past while the world passes them by. The future is for the living. Build it anew — for the future!
March 21st, 2008 at 10:25 am
College baseball has a home and it is in Omaha, no matter what the stadium name is. Keep the CWS in Omaha.
March 21st, 2008 at 10:34 am
If we don’t build it, WE WILL LOSE THE CWS
March 21st, 2008 at 10:39 am
Go Mike, you have my vote in 2009. Keeping the CWS is vital to Omaha.
March 21st, 2008 at 10:42 am
There are a ton of “logical” reasons to build a new stadium. There are few “logical” reasons to keep Rosenblatt. Emotional, yes, logical, no.
While the process could certainly be handled better than it was, the recall petition is absurd. What good will that do? Be a national embarressment during the CWS???
I have been to Rosenblatt many, many times. It has served its purpose. If anyone has ever been to Haymarket in Lincoln, they will see what a stadium should be like. It is a pleasure to attend a ballgame there. Yes, we have poured millions into Rosenblatt and how long will we keep doing that for a 60 year old structure?
The CWS will go on, perhaps at Rosenblatt for a few more years. We will have to keep pouring more money each year and it would still not be desireable for what the NCAA would like to see. If we can get the CWS for 20+ years in a new stadium, this is a no-brainer.
Please, Omaha, look to the future. This is a great opportunity for all of us.
March 21st, 2008 at 10:46 am
It’s about time a local news station did a story of support for a downtown stadium. This is a wonderful opportunity for the future of Omaha. 18,000 people were downtown yesterday for the NCAA D1 Men’s Basketball tournament and I witnessed thousands of people enjoying the event as well as the city. The downtown venue has an atmosphere to offer Omaha’s guests that Rosenblatt simply cannot compete with. In between games visitors have many options all within walking distance downtown; including the Old Market, Heartland of America Park, the pedestrian bridge, the river boardwalk, a legion of restaurant and bar options, several hotels, and the Durham Western Heritage museum. And lets not forget this would give the Henry Doorly Zoo the only opportunity to expand allowing Nebraska’s number one tourist attraction to grow and continue to be one of the best zoos nationwide. Downtown Omaha has a lot of parking options available and walking six blocks is no big deal, after all any event the caliber of a NCAA tournament is going to draw thousands of people. Any time you have that many people in one location there is going to be traffic. There are several routes to downtown Omaha which will help to alleviate traffic. For those who are complaining about traffic and parking must have conveniently forgotten about how backed up I80 gets during the CWS and how far away people park and walk in South O . . . come on people! I want to enjoy the CWS with my children and grandchildren. Let’s think about the future and what is best for the entire city!
March 21st, 2008 at 10:52 am
I am for a new stadium
March 21st, 2008 at 10:54 am
I believe in the initiative to build a new stadium in our downtown area. The College World Series is a large tourism attraction, bringing in new profits for our city. Without efforts to compete with other large metro cities, we will possibly loose the contract and all the people, money, promotion of Omaha and more with it.
Please support our Mayor and his staff in their decision to build the new stadium.
Thank you, Robin Whitehead
March 21st, 2008 at 10:58 am
build it, they will come!
March 21st, 2008 at 11:00 am
I feel that having the ballpark downtown is the best for Omaha, it will allow us to keep the CWS here for generations to come. There are many cities I’m sure that are waiting for the opportunity to have the CWS if we don’t do this. I belive Mayor Mike Fahey has worked very hard to keep the CWS here in our city. A recall is rediculous. People need to come together and think what this could do for everyone now and in the future. When people complain there will be traffic problems it seems to me there were a few before, and people made the best of it, and the city worked hard to make things flow efficiently. Also by moving the ballpark downtown that will also open up opportunities for the Zoo to expand and do more wonderful things to make our Zoo the best in the country.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:13 am
Building this stadium will be the best thing to happen to Omaha since the Qwest Center. If we want to make a name for our city we need to keep growing and this will play a big part in it. The only reason why the very few people of Omaha who want to keep Rosenblatt is because one reason. These people live by Rosenblatt so they know if we build a new stadium they will lose money in one or two ways (A) they can’t charge $5-$20 to park depending on how far away you want to park and how steep of hills you want to walk up and (B) they know the city will have to pay them more then double for their land. This tells me they don’t care about the city or the CWS just them selves. Look at other Large cities in the US. Most cities have two large event facilities next to each other. Traffic and parking will not be any worst of a problem then Rosenblatt. At Rosenblatt you have to park blocks away and you have to pay $10 – $20 to park a game. Last time i looked $6 was cheaper then $10-$20 and i’m sure you will be able to keep your car there for both games that day. Driving i feel wont be a problem either. on 13th street you only have 1 way in and out and that is 2 lanes heading north and 2 lanes heading south, and 1 way of getting on and off the Interstate. Downtown You have 3 ways of getting on and off the interstate, and you can drive nearly all the way around the stadium going in both directions. They will be able to add more parking downtown for more cars they can’t in south Omaha
March 21st, 2008 at 11:16 am
I think a new stadium would be an asset to our community.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:19 am
Please, Omaha, look to the future. This is a great opportunity for the metro area. I’m sure many people have an emotional attachment to Rosenblatt but it’s not about us. It’s about the student athlete. Imagine how excited they will be to take the road to Omaha to play in the most modern stadium in the nation. I’m not sure it will have enough capacity. I’ve been to many events at the Quest Center and Convention Center and although I will complain about traffic at the time, it sure beats the hour and a half it took to get away from Rosenblatt the last time I was there for the CWS. That was 5 years ago and my family hasn’t been back. Build it so the zoo can be expanded. Maybe they can build a Panda environment and name the first offspring “par king”.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:30 am
Let’s move forward. None of us like change, but we have to look at what is best for the people of Nebraskas.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:33 am
I stronlgy support the new stadium, we need to keep the CWS in Omaha where it belongs.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:34 am
Please build the new stadium and let the cultural renaissance begin!
March 21st, 2008 at 11:37 am
I support building the downtown baseball stadium.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:38 am
It is time for a change. The new ballpark will create progress and improvement in the downtown area, and allow Omaha to become even more of a sports destination city.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:41 am
I was born and raised in So. Omaha.
Mayor Fahey is doing a good job, He’s not lining his own pockets with your tax dollars.
Compare our police department and fire department with other cities, Ours are both great.
You get what you pay for.
The young upstart trying to have him recalled has only lived here 6 months. I suggest he go back to podunk.
Omaha really screwed up by not allowing casinos. Research all they have done for CB and the rest of Iowa.
We have to move forward with the times. I remember the demise of downtown Omaha, in the 70s. Boarded up buildings, homeless sleeping or roaming the entire area.
Fahey has not asked us for a penny. Omaha has more millionaires per capita than any other city in the U.S.. Lets have a fund raiser!
The money from the sale of the Blatt property to the zoo, will, I hope be used on the new stadium.
The walking bridge has great esthetic value.
Please lets not stay stuck in 1940. Make Omaha beautiful, keep Omaha beautiful.
March 21st, 2008 at 11:52 am
I’m all for it!
March 21st, 2008 at 11:59 am
Building the stadium is a no-brainer. If you want your house to be worth anything, you have to put some money into it; the same rule of thumb applies to the growth and development of a city. I understand that no one likes an increase in taxes, but in all honesty, Omaha is one of the most inexpensize cities in the nation with regard to cost of living. If Omaha is going to be taken seriously as a progressing city, its residents need to understand the importance of change and the necessary costs associated with development.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:12 pm
This could be an opportunity for Omaha to cement its position as THE entertainment center between Chicago and Denver. JUST DO IT!
March 21st, 2008 at 12:26 pm
We need to save the CWS in Omaha.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Change happens and thankfully we have a mayor who understands that. The new stadium will obviously help the NoDo neighborhood by bringing in restaurants, hotels & events besides the CWS & it will help Rosenblatt’s neighborhood by allowing the zoo to expand.
I understand the sentimental attachment people have to Rosenblatt, but that’s no reason to fight progress in the city.
March 21st, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Downtown is the way to go. The city, although I’m not a resident, will be stronger with an ever growing downtown area.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:20 pm
I will be buying season tickets if they build the stadium.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:21 pm
The new stadium is the only way to go, Rosenblatt is a money pit. Downtown and Omaha will benifit so much from this new location. The proximity to many hotels/resturants/bars/parks makes so much more sense then having it in the middle of a neighborhood with a zestos and kingkong…
And people that bring up the argument of traffic make me laugh… have they ever been to a CWS game at Rosenblatt? I have sat in traffic for over an hour on multiple occasions. Downtown has so many more outlets and I have been to concerts with 17000 people at qwest and sat in virtually no traffic.
And you can not denie hitting a homerun to the awesome, developing skyline of omaha! vs. the desert dome….
GO DOWNTOWN STADIUM!!
March 21st, 2008 at 1:26 pm
A new stadium is our best option.
March 21st, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Build the stadium! Omaha is on it’s way, we should all be in favor of progress and development..
March 21st, 2008 at 1:50 pm
I support
March 21st, 2008 at 2:22 pm
I think that building a new downtown stadium is a great step in improving the general enviroment of Omaha. As you can see, Omaha has done a great job with the NCAA Basketball Tournament Downtown at the Qwest Center, and as an outsider looking in, I think that a new baseball stadium would be great for downtown Omaha and the economy. Keep the tradition, THE ROAD TO OMAHA!!
March 21st, 2008 at 2:46 pm
I am 100% for the new downtown stadium. I communicated this to the mayor and all of the city council members.
March 21st, 2008 at 2:57 pm
As someone who has volunteered my time to supporting the success of the CWS for nearly 20 years, I strongly support the building of a new stadium. It is about keeping the CWS here in Omaha. And for those to say that it is a lot of money for two weeks, check out the other NCAA events that are coming to Omaha. These events are here because of the CWS, not because of the weather or the steaks.
I love the nostalgia and memories of Rosenblatt. Over the last 17 years we have spent millions to make it a “state of the art” park. Even with a refurbishing, we would continue to spend millions due to the age of the structure.
It is time that we put aside our political agendas and our selfish concerns and think about what is best for the future of this community.
