Statement of Support
We believe building a new downtown stadium as proposed by the CWS Oversight Committee is the best option for the City of Omaha to keep the CWS in Omaha for the long-term. As such, the following people support that recommendation.

Let’s get it out of that area to a nicer, safer, part of the city. My wife was mugged down there a couple years ago. It just doesn’t present the image we want for Omaha. Move forward, people.

Thank you for giving us an outlet to voice our support for this new stadium. I am fully in favor of a new stadium. We need to bring our city into the 21st Century. But, sadly, there are still people in this world who are terrified of change. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to let these terrified people know that they are not the vocal majority that they think they are!

I’m sorry I don’t have time to post a longer comment but I am so sick and tired of people complaining about wasting our tax money. The property tax and wheel tax will not be affected at all by a new stadium. And the same people that say this want to spend $200,000 to get the mayor out of office less than six months early. I guarantee if we build the new stadium all these people who are against it wil still end up going to it.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Build the Stadium. It will be a great attraction for the city of Omaha.
Also recalling the Mayor is foolish.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Build it!!!
March 25th, 2008 at 10:51 am
This stadium should be built. Omaha needs to start growing and loosing the CWS is going to hurt this city. FYI Rosenblatt supporters, there is no way the NCAA will let the CWS play in that Dungeon any longer. Read the writing on the wall, it has got to go and a stadium downtown would be amazing. Sign me up because I’ll sign anything necessary to get this stadium going.
Oh yeah, I will not be signing any recall petitions–this just infuriates me that people have the audacity to be this narrow minded. Seriously, leave the state of Nebraska and go live somewhere else. Everywhere around the country is progressing, this stadium will only HELP Omaha become a major city. Just build it
March 25th, 2008 at 11:04 am
I have already posted on this site but I have to speak to one of the reasons I heard for the recall. One of the organizers was complaining about property tax and said that even though taxes were not being raised property values were falling and this was somehow the mayor’s fault. All this does is show the lack of education on the petitioners part, property values have dropped because of the housing market trouble not the mayor’s office. My whole problem with the recall campaign is about lack of knowledge and education. Not addressing the facts but looking for a scapegoat for their problems when in reality they should probably look in the mirror……..I hope they fail.

I would like to add my name to those in strong support of a new downtown baseball stadium and also how fortunate we are to have a mayor like Mike Fahey who was able to come up with this excellent plan.
March 25th, 2008 at 11:47 am
I am a long time Baseball Fan and have attended many games at Rosenblatt Stadium. I have also attended games in other cities and fully realize that with the changing times, Rosenblatt with all its charm and history has seen time pass it by. I am also a big fan of the College World Series and also realize the importance the series provides our area both economicaly and in many other areas. I applaude Mayor Fahey and the people he is working with in their effort to insure that the Series stays in our area. I also believe that Mayor Fahey and his committee have thoroughly answered questions concerning financing. We would be throwing money down the drain to spend more money on repairs and improvements of Rosenblatt (ie: the Civic Auditorium vs. Quest). If we want to move forward as a growing and exciting area to attract new business and people it is time to think ahead instead of only yesterday and today.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
This is going to be outstanding, and I’m glad that there are people of vision in Omaha! The comedian Martin Mull was in town to perform for UNO’s Homecoming back in the mid 70’s, and he commented that he thought Omaha was going to be a really nice town once they got it finished. Well, it won’t ever be finished, but in about three years, we need to invite him back to take another look. Really good cities don’t stay constant. They are either improving or declining. And this ballpark, along with the pedestrian bridge and the Wall Street Tower are big pieces to the puzzle. Imagine what it’s going to look like when those three are finished coming in from Eppley on Abbot Drive! Are there going to be challenges along the way? Of course, but we can’t let these kinds of opportunities pass us by. They may not come our way again.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
The need for a new stadium is there, because if we want to secure the CWS for a long term contract without a new stadium, there’s no CWS. By getting rid of rosenblatt, they would keep the zoo at a world class level, everyone has forgotten about the zoo, in all the stadium excitement. A stadium moving to downtown would result in a world class stadium, and a world class zoo. A new stadium would also take up a lot of the wasted space downtown. Take out some of the abandoned buildings in the downtown area, and there is plenty of space for parking. That is the best way to accommodate the needs of everybody that’s really involved. It also cleans up some of the eyesores that you wouldn’t want associated with our new downtown attractions, anyway.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I am adding my name as a show of support for a downtown stadium.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Great for the Greater Omaha area.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Thanks for doing this. I believe the silent majority is being drowned out by the negativists.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
I support Mayor Fahey and the new Stadium Proposal. When I heard talk of a ‘Recall’ – I couldn’t believe it! He is taking the heat for something that is going to secure the College World Series to stay in Omaha for years to come. I truly believe that 5-10 years from now, people will be enjoying downtown Omaha, walking to restaurants, hotels and ballgames. They will look back on this and think, “I can’t believe there was even a ‘Decision’ to be made”.
I’m a baseball fan and have had a lot of wonderful memories over the years at Rosenblatt watching CWS games and our sons play there, but time marches on. Look how much enjoyment events at the Qwest Center have brought to our City. Last weekend was wonderful for Omaha, getting to Host one of the NCAA basketball tournaments.
Along with all of this, the Rosenblatt property could enhance our World Class Zoo to be even better. What a “WIN-WIN” for Omaha!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I say “Build it!” This whole issue is deja vu from when Mayor Daub started talking about building the Qwest Center. A loud minority of the city was all up in arms about it and the media covered it to get better ratings. I truly believe that a new stadium will be better for Omaha, the surrounding communities, the Omaha Royals, the Zoo and the CWS.
One issue that has not been raised was the condition of the neighborhoods surrounding Rosenblatt. My husband and I always make it to some CWS games every year – one year we only missed 1 game! I was always appalled at the condition of the houses along 13th street and in the neighborhood where many out of town or out of state visitors would have to pay $10 to park in someones lawn. Those neighborhoods have had over 50 years to make Omaha look presentable and they have done nothing. These are the people who are Omaha’s representatives when visitors come to the CWS – and they have not done us well. Some were nice, but some yelled at you while they threw their beer cans on their own lawn. The NCAA expects more from a city for such a major event. Imagine that – it would be cheaper to park in a parking lot downtown than in the neighborhoods surrounding Rosentblatt!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Thank you very much for stepping up and taking the inititive to build the support for Mayor Faheys project that can do no more than enhance the whole riverfront project.I can understand recalling someone who has broken the law or done some maljustice while in office – but for trying to improve the overall betterment of the city is a total farce. BUILD IT – THEY WILL COME.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
This will help boost Omahas economy for years to come, possibly missing out on a billion dollars for the community over a period of time, isnt worth preventing to build the stadium.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
I am writing this statement to support Mayor Fahey and the building of a stadium in downtown Omaha. The College World Series is essential to the continued growth and prosperity of Omaha and we should do whatever is necessary to keep it. The college baseball playoffs have been deemed “The road to Omaha,” not the road to Rosenblatt. While there is a great deal of history and nostalgia that is tied to Rosenblatt, this can’t be used as an excuse to derail progress. At what point do people step back and ask themselves what the magic number for Rosenblatt is. How much money do we continue to sink into the money trap that is Rosenblatt? At some point we need to say, enough is enough, and that time is now.
I’m sick of hearing people complain about how bad parking would be, or how they pay enough taxes, or this or that… First of all, the parking is terrible at Rosenblatt! The main parking lots fill up with people tail-gating and you have to $20 to get a descent spot which happens to be in someone’s front yard. Secondly, if people would take the time to study the details of the proposal, they would realize it would not increase our taxes one bit. The public funding piece would come from revenues generated through increased fees/taxes on hotels and rental cars. Third, by moving the stadium downtown, it gives the zoo room to expand, which it desperately needs. The zoo is a year-round attraction and it can be taken to the next level if given the space it needs to grow.
The next few months is a unique moment in the history of Omaha. It can either be viewed as the point where Omaha decided to invest in its future and further its growth and prosperity for decades to come, or it can be viewed as the point where Omaha took a short-sighted, selfish stance that cost itself the college world series.
I want to end by praising Mayor Fahey for being a champion for the growth of Omaha. He has endured a great-deal of criticism and ridicule, most of which is unfounded and perpetrated by people who are living in the past and can’t see the big picture. The argument that, “my grandpa used to take me to game at Rosenblatt,” is not good enough any longer. Progress is beckoning, and it is up to us to answer the call. Support the Mayor!! Build the stadium!!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
I believe the city should build the stadium downtown. Refurbishing the “blatt” is just throwing money away. It’s so old that it doesn’t make fiscal sense to put millions of dollars into an aging stadium, it’s pretty much a money pit. Basically the people opposed to this are the freeloaders in South O. that make money off of parking (insane amounts of money).
Also, the neighborhood around rosenblatt is just awful. Half the houses look like they should be condemened. It gives Omaha such a bad rep. by being in such an awful place. It’s time to start digging in NODO. No questions asked.
March 25th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
i will finally get to go to a game with a new stadium. i’m handicapped and can’t get up steps or dowen so hopefully it’ll be accessable. keep pullin for our great mayor
March 25th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Build it! It’s a no brainer. If we don’t we loose the CWS. I’ve been a CWS season ticket holder for 25 years. Rosenblatt has been good to us, but it’s not that nice of a place. I’m as sentimental as anyone, but it’s no historic landmark by anymeans. Plus the surronding neighborhod is trashy. I’m tired of every shirtless property owner charging people to park in their front yards and selling water bottles!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Great comment The Jess!! Let’s promote a better Omaha!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
I agree with The Jess! Lets build a new tradition in a new great location! There is no parking at Rosenblatt, the traffic is terrrible and the neighborhood is a huge eyesore the to city of Omaha!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
As a taxpaying downtown home owner, I’d like to suggest putting the Downtown BID funds directly towards this stadium.
March 25th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
This is for the better of Omaha. Build the new stadium!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
March 25th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
A little tax now, or alot of tax later. The city needs the CWS.
March 25th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Let’s move this city forward and build the new stadium. This is great for the city and for keeping the College World Series in Omaha. I am sick and tired of hearing about the recall, the Mayor is trying to create progress for the city. Look at how well the Qwest Center has done. We are getting some great events here. We would not have gotten half of these events without progress.
Build the stadium!
March 25th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
A small investement will pay HUGE dividends in the FUTURE of Omaha.
Per the suggestion of councilmen Chuck Sigerson….
Please ask your friends to e-mail the Council and the Mayor as well.

Being a lifelong resident of Omaha, I have always found the CWS to be the “event” of the year. For us to even be in a position to lose this event is very troublesome. Too many people think, “it is fine the way it is, why spend the money”. This is the way cities lose events and eventually start to lose population. The city of Omaha is in the middle of unmatched downtown development and without this project the overall downtown re-development plan may stall. With the thousands of residential units coming online, there needs to be another center to spur growth and that is what the downtown stadium will represent. If people worry about their taxes, worry about an increase once the population declines and the tax base erodes due to an unattractive metropolitan area.
March 25th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Please, let’s work together and find a way to keep the CWS here. This new stadium would revitalize the area and be a beautiful attraction for the city and the NCAA would be proud to keep the CWS going at this new facility. It is time to stop the negativity and work together! Mayor has done an excellent job for the city of Omaha and has a strong vision for our future. Let’s build it downtown and keep the downtown momentum and growth going!
March 25th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Why are people in this state so afraid of change? Why are people in this city so afraid to visit Omaha? Why does the anxiety levels increase when people drive downtown. What Fahey has done for the future of this city surpasses anything any previous mayor has done and that is in a positive way. I have had the priveledged to meet and golf with Mayor before he took office. He loves this city and it shows by his actions.
March 25th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Change is a good thing. I love the Quest Center ands it location so a new ballpark in the same area can only be considered a great idea.
March 25th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
I support the new stadium!
March 25th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Build the Stadium Downtown already!!!
March 25th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
I am in full support of Mayor Fahey and the plans he and his committee have devised. I applaud all the work our mayor has done toward the growth and appeal of our city. This will only add to the many changes our city has seen in the last 7 years. For those who do not support a new stadium – “Get out of the past and live for the future.”
March 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
It would be nice to be able to attend a CWS game and have someplace to go afterwards. What a great opportunity for Omaha. New stadium, improved zoo, better economic situation. Exactly what we need as we face pending financial hurdles.
March 25th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I applaud Mike for what he is trying to accomplish. Mike is a mayor who is looking out for the overall growth of the city. I believe the new stadium will just make more and more people want to come to Omaha and spend more money in the city. And for the people who complain about the parking situation downtown, should pack there bags and go to another large metropolitan city and she how there traffic flows. When you have over 17,000 people all leaving at the same time, guess what, you have traffic. And I believe that the city with the help of the OPD has worked to make traffic moves with the volume of traffic. I say keep up the fight, because I think it will be worth it in the end.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
As a city Omaha is very lucky to have both the oppurtunity for a new stadium and a long relationship with the CWS. The ignorant Rosenblatt people are the same ones that were against the Qwest center but I bet they were damn proud that there was actually an ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE TO OMAHA ON ESPN.COM for the bball games. There is no way that would’ve happened if we didn’t have the Qwest center. A new ballpark will bring even more entertainment to Omaha and then we won’t have to pay unemployed people 20 bucks to park in their driveway and walk through the slums to see the CWS. Go mayor, and go new stadium!
March 25th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Build it! Make Omaha the best host city it can be.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Go Stadium Go!!!!! This will be a great addition to downtown.
