Statement of Support
We believe building a new downtown stadium as proposed by the CWS Oversight Committee is the best option for the City of Omaha to keep the CWS in Omaha for the long-term. As such, the following people support that recommendation.

Lets move forward and build the new stadium. It’s the only way to keep the CWS in Omaha.
March 27th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
I support building the new stadium even if my taxes go up. Omaha cannot loose the College World Series, imagine what can happen to our taxes if we loose the Series.

I disagree with the assumption that we would loose the CWS if the downtown stadium was not to be built. However, as a urban planning student, I see that the net effect of the stadium on the urban element of downtown to be so overwhelmingly positive that it more than justifies the risk.

Although I was against it initially, I now believe the new stadium is a great idea. I don’t feel the traffic flow or parking is a big issue. Just look at what we go through during the CWS now. Additionally, I want people to remember Omaha favorably and talk about how nice the area around the stadium is instead of how they had to stay miles away from the stadium, they had to pay some homeowner $10 to $20 to park on their lawn, the area/homes around the stadium (other than the zoo) haven’t been updated since the 1950’s, and their choice of fine dining establishments is Zesto’s or King Kong. BUILD THE STADIUM!
March 27th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
I’m all for it. Let’s keep the CWS in Omaha and build the new stadium!
March 27th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Omaha needs to remember the centiment against the Qwest Center a few years ago. Look at the facility todya and what it has done for our great city. A downtown baseball field will do the same thing.
March 27th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
GREAT IDEA! I’M HOPEFUL THAT YOU CAN SHOW OTHERS THAT THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF SUPPORT AND THAT THIS IS A TIME FOR LEADERSHIP FROM OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES. OMAHA HAS A UNQUE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE TWO AREAS OF OUR CITY THAT NEED IT THE MOST. WE CAN HAVE A WIN WIN SITUATION INSTEAD OF A LOST OPPORTUNIY. I AM HOPEFUL THAT OTHERS WILL PAY ATTENTION TO THE THOUGHTFUL AND FORWARD THING STATEMENTS OF OTHERS WHO SUPPORT THE STADIUM.
YOU ARE TO BE COMMENDED FOR STEPPING FORWARD.
March 27th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
The PROs vs the CONs, for building a stadium in downtown Omaha or renovating Rosenblatt, far outweigh the long-term benefits to the city of Omaha, the CWS, and eventually the Royals. Win-win for all!
March 27th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I am all for the new stadium. The old one is run down and falling apart. The long term goals of the stadium show that it has been looked at from all points and I feel it is solid. Keeping the Royals and the College World Series are very important to our community and we should do whatever will work best to fulfill those goals….and that is building a new stadium.
March 27th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
The more this city can do to enhance the downtown experience the better.
March 27th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
We need to keep moving forward in this city in a progressive way so that if another national broadcast is here, such as American Idol, we will be seen more than just the “corn state.”
March 27th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
We strongly support building a new downtown stadium and urge Omaha to join in supporting the recommendation of the Committee.
March 27th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
I strongly support the committees findings in favor of a downtown stadium.
March 27th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Though I do not live in the city of Omaha, I commend Mayor Mike Fahey for bringing this issue forward. Citizens do not realize the amount of money that we are funneling into Rosenblatt Stadium just for renovations. But if we spend the same amount of money to renovate the stadium and build the “Green Zone” we could have a brand new ballpark and not have to spend $50 million every 10 years for improvements.
The city of Omaha and the College World Series need this new ballpark to keep moving foward in the 21st century. Like Mayor Fahey said, “the CWS will be played in a new ballpark by 2011, whether that is in Omaha or not.”
Thank you so much for creating this site!

It’s a can’t lose for the City of Omaha and the NCAA.
March 27th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Our city has had so much positive change and this is just one more step toward bringing more money into the city and keeping the College World Series.
March 27th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
I have been attending the CWS every year since 1993. I love the Blatt! But I know that the CWS and Omaha’s part in it are larger than the location. Let’s build the new stadium and keep the CWS here in Omaha. Part of the Blatt would make a great College Baseball Museum right here in Omaha, for everyone to see and visit in conjunctioon with their trip to Omaha for the great event in June!!!!!
March 27th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
I support the downtown site. I think it’s time bring new life to the city of Omaha. Keeping the College World Series here in Omaha should be our number one concern. Downtown has more to offer our vistors. More things to see and do means more money for our city. Losing the College World Series wouldn’t just hurt Omaha, but ruin a tradtion.
March 27th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Growing up….you never heard the coach say we’ve made it to Rosenblatt Stadium. You heard the coach say we’ve made to Omaha. I played in the College World Series back in the 90’s. I love the tradition of the games here in Omaha. It would be such a loss for this city to lose such an event. The new stadium would rejuvenate the city and help bring in more revenue. Most of all it would keep the dreams of young ball players alive, who dream someday of making it to Omaha!
March 27th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Build it!
March 28th, 2008 at 6:37 am
It will be a great addition to the downtown area.
March 28th, 2008 at 7:15 am
Omaha needs this.
March 28th, 2008 at 10:19 am
I’m in Douglas County and think this is the only way to convince the NCAA that we are committed to College Baseball. The old place is outdated and the land could be used to enhance our already world famous zoo. If not built, we could lose one of the events this town is known for.
March 28th, 2008 at 10:25 am
I 100% support the stadium and Mayor Fahey. Special interest groups will not run this city, nor will they cause the CWS to leave.
March 28th, 2008 at 11:27 am
In the business world you make decisions based on financial and strategic reasons, not emotions. The new stadium will be a huge asset strategically to the entire city, and the financial benefits of the stadium and keeping the CWS will benefit the city for years to come. The downtown area has already had amazing growth, and a new stadium will advance Omaha to the next level. The issues that have been raised can and will be mitigated.
The reward far outweighs the risk — and we can’t afford the risk of losing the CWS.
March 28th, 2008 at 11:29 am
This shouldn’t even be an issue, this stadium needs to be built downtown. Mayor Fahey just build it already
March 28th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
This is a great thing for Omaha. The only good thing about Rosenblatt were the Super Nachos at the concession stands. If they can build a new $50 Million dollar stadium, I’m sure they can figure out a way to make Super Nachos at the new place. Love it.
March 28th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I support the new stadium idea. Omaha needs to look forward and think about the future rather than continuing to bury its head in the sand. It will be better for the fans, for the college world series, for the city and for the zoo.
March 28th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Please build this stadium. I do not want the CWS to leave the great city of Omaha!!!
Remember, its not the road to Rosenblatt its the Road to Omaha.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
i fully support the idea! thanks mayor!! cant wait to walk to baseball games from my downtown digs
March 28th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
As someone who has worked on the CWS for 20 years, I wish I had seen the merit of a new stadium from the very beginning. I guess I had an emotional investment in Rosenblatt and, as a conservative person, I thought a refurbished Rosenblatt would be more fiscally responsible. All my objections have been answered and I am 100 percent in support of a new downtown stadium. I hope others who felt as I did initially, take time to review the information with an OPEN MIND. I strongly believe this is the best path for both Omaha and the future of the College World Series. “Thank you” to those on the Stadium Selection Committee for their service to this community.
March 28th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
I’m all for it.
March 29th, 2008 at 7:51 am
A downtown ballpark would be a great benefit to the community and to baseball (home plate needs to be in the southwest corner…builders didn’t turn Yankee Stadium to view the Harlem River and the Manhatten sky line!). Hopefully, a few deep pocketted benefactors can kick in and reduce the fincancial burden on the city.
March 29th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
I support a new statium!!
March 29th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
I support a new statium in Omaha
March 29th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
if you build it they will come.
March 29th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
The new stadium is beyond logical. We need to do a few important things to secure our city’s extra income. The first thing is the new stadium. The second is the zoo using that land to further distance itself from other zoo’s around the world. The new stadium would be in a perfect place. They could destroy some of those abondened buildings in the immediate downtown area. They really have infinite parking if they just look at the surrounding area; old, desolate, and dangerous buildings. And just think of the great aerial view Omaha would have. All those games that make it on T.V. the photos would be outstanding. The new stadium, Qwest Center,Creighton Soccer Complex, First National Tower, Woodmen Tower, and the river, all rolled up into one. The only thing I don’t like is the name, they need to spend a little more time on the name. They could put a historic name on it and some of the criers at Rosenblatt would stop yelling about the historic value of the decrepit old stadium. We need that CWS money for the next 60 years, it’s not like we have gambling to compensate any income for us. This has to be done. Nobody even wanted Rosenblatt originally, now we can’t get rid of the darn thing.
March 29th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
This is a good idea
March 29th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I fully support the building of a new stadium in omaha. And I wanna be the hot dog launcher guy!!
March 29th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I strongly agree with a new stadium, but call it the Alltel(or whatever) RosePark for all the Rosenblatt buffs. That way the memories are never lost. Anything but NoDo stadium. That is the worst name ever I think. Also the taxes that are going to be raised (hotels, rental cars) would mostly affect the tourists that come here. So Isn’t it really suppporting itself, multi-level parking is the way to go, also. The room that’s left in the downtown area, after the stadium is built, could be used replace another Omaha icon, Peony Park. Where were all of you conservatives wanting to save Omaha’s history then. That is where I got my first kiss. How’s that for history. I have read alot of these letters on here. I might be the only one that remembers how Omaha traded off a great attraction, like Peony Park, for a Hy-Vee, Fazoli’s, and a skate park. Speaking from the youth of the 80’s, let’s not destroy future memories for my kids and take away a new stadium. The only people that are complaining are the ones that are hillbilly enough to let people park in their yards, yeah you might be a redneck. Just think of it as a start to a whole new yard. Just start building in the cover of night and when everyone wakes up a new stadium hopefully not called NoDo. Move forward with innovative thinking, and bring us to the top. Thanks for everything Fahey
March 29th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
I go to Creighton and live in Tip Top. The new stadium would be GREAT for the area and the city itself. It’s totally unrealistic to expand Rosenblatt. Just accept the end of an era and the beginning of a new improved one.
March 29th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
While a long time fan of Rosenblatt we must take a forward looking approach to the Omaha. In my view the level of private donations are substantial and generous. Further the opportunity for economic development both from building out the Zoo and revitalizing downtown Omaha are key elements to Omaha’s long term success. Retaining the College World Series in Omaha also offers us all an incredible opportunity to market and brand our city. Why we even have controversy here is troubling to me. As a city we need to get our act together and put our best foot foward or we all may pay a heavy price.
March 29th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
I fully support the proposal to build a new downtown baseball staduim. I live in Bellevue and I would definately make it a point to attend more CWS games as well as bringing my children to participate in some of the fanfare activites around the stadium. It has been a long time since I have been to a Omaha Royals game but a new stadium downtown would also peak my intrest in attending Royals games. Getting in my car and going to Rosenblatt just isn’t enough to get me to a Royals game because there isn’t much in the area besides the zoo. But a new staduim downtown would make make a Royals game so much more attractive because of all of the things you could do before and after the game.
March 30th, 2008 at 9:31 am
As a former Denver area resident, I went through the whole “Mile High Stadium” sentiment and naming the new Broncos ballpark. Then there was the controversy in financing and building Coors Field. Needless to say, there was the similar opposition to change and the risk involved.
Everything worked out, including Denver now having one of the best baseball parks in the country!
And it also faces the wrong direction…
I’ve loved going to Rosenblatt for the O’Royals and the CWS, but it is a financial no-brainer to build the new venue (does anyone say “no-brainer” anymore?).
Here’s a worst case scenario I floated by council member Chuck Sigerson: let’s say Omaha winds up on the hook for about $50 million on the stadium. We’re going to see at least a $500 million return with CWS revenue alone over the next 15-20 years.
Would you be happy if your 401K earned ten times what you contributed?
One final note on the whole disclosure thing the anti-stadium crowd hurled at the mayor’s office: in the several cities I’ve lived in, I’ve NEVER seen more disclosure than what’s been shown with this stadium issue.
The bottom line: every similar issue will have the usual opposition, and for three basic reasons–fear of risk, lack of information, and downright selfishness.
March 30th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
We both are in strong support of the CWS committee’s decision, under Mayor Fahey’s guidance, for a downtown baseball stadium for the College World Series. It is a well-considered choice. We appreciate your foresight and perseverance in this decision. Rosenblatt Stadium does have alot of history behind it, but its location, present structure, lack of adequate parking, lack of nearby hotels/motels and restaurants do not meet the requirements for continued useage by the College World Series.
Mayor Fahey and the committee could have taken the path of least resistance with Rosenblatt, but it would not have been the best choice for an assurance of a continuing, long-term partnership with Omaha and CWS.
What a great opportunity for the greater Omaha area!! With a $30+ million addition to our local economy on an annual basis and with no tax burden for Omaha taxpayers due to financing the stadium’s construction from other sources, the proposed downtown stadium is a “win-win” choice for Omaha.
March 30th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
I’m all for a downtown ball park. In fact I believe we will lose the College World Series if we don’t build it. There are always nay sayers. Look at the Eiffel Tower and what a symbol it is for Paris. Many people complained about how ugly it was at the time it was built.
build it and the people of Omaha will love it.
March 30th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
When it comes down to it, the CWS needs to stay in Omaha. If we need to build a new stadium in order to ensure that, so be it. I support doing whatever it takes to keep the CWS here for years to come! I look forward to the games every Summer. People need to stop being so stubborn and accept that this is the best option.
March 31st, 2008 at 3:39 am
I was in favor of saving rosenblatt until I actually saw the numbers and details and I am now in full support of the stadium. I’m sick of all the people who are afraid of change. Omaha has fallen behind in the sense that rosenblatt stadium doesn’t even make the top 25 best minor league ballparks.
Stadiums never last forever. Rosenblatt doesn’t have half the tradition of Yankee Stadium, Texas Stadium, Busch Stadium, Mile High Stadium, Tiger Stadium, Three Rivers Stadium, Veterans Stadium, RFK, Shea Stadium or the Orange Bowl but all those cities have upgraded to more modern stadiums.
What happens when a city refuses to build a new venue??? Well just ask the city of seattle as the Sonics pack their bags and head for OKC.
Common sense says build the new stadium downtown.
March 31st, 2008 at 6:05 am
Well it looks like the recall folks are fincally giving up. Havn’t heard from them and they quit updating their site with places to sign. Finally they got the message when all 500 of them signed their petition. Finally we can move foward and build this wonderful stadium . Build it not. Build it and they will come .
